The state of Tennessee is involved in the federal program known as medicaid. The medicaid program was started in order to help low income families to be able to afford medical care that they otherwise would not be able to afford.

Although the federal government is responsible for starting the Medicaid program, it is administered on the state level. Not all states call the medicaid program medicaid, the state of Tennessee calls the medicaid program TennCare.

* Tip - You will receive a medicaid card and should carry this with you at all times. When you have a doctors appointment you should show them this card before they perform any medical procedures.
