If you live in the state of Illinois and you are having a difficult time affording proper medical treatment then you may be able to take advantage of the federally funded medical insurance program known as medicaid.

The medicaid program was established in order to help low income families and individuals to be able to better afford their medical expenses. Although the program is a federally funded program, the individual states are responsible for administering the benefits. Currently the state of Illinois handles the program through the Department of Healthcare and Family Services, previously known as the Department of Public Aid.

* Tip - If your prescription medicine is covered under the federal rebate program it should be covered by your medicaid benefits. It is also possible that some over the counter medicines may also be covered, but that is on an individual basis.
