In order to help families and individuals with financial difficulties to be able to afford proper medical treatment, the federal government set up the medicaid program. This is available in all states in the US, including Massachusetts.

Although medicaid is a federally funded program it is left to the individual states to administer the program and to disperse the funds. The state of Massachusetts funds are administered through the Commonwealth Care program
